I have 4 rummys in my 55G, I wanted more, but they are almost impossible to find, and any I do find either already look very sick, or never make it past QT.

The 4 I have are almost always hanging out in one spot of the tank, low down, in the plants, where I rarely get to see them. They eat well, are big and healthy, and I do occasionally see them out and about.

I think I read somewhere that rummys do like to stay towards the lower levels of the tank, but I can't help think that mine do this more so because there is only 4 of them. I am seriously debating finding someone who already has some and wants another 4 of them, they are great fish, I just half feel like they would be happier in a larger group.

Any suggestions? am I right in that its because there is only 4?

Thanks.

Possibly, what else is in the tank? Maybe they're hiding from something.

In the tank with them is a large angel, 8 peppered cory cats, and 2 rubberlip plecos. The angel would be the only one to bother them, but I have never seen him pay any attention to them.

I might think it's because you have only 4, but then again I have only 5, and while they do tend to stay closer to the bottom, and they aren't really outgoing fish, I do see them all the time. And they don't usually stay in one spot for a long period of time, though I have seen them do this a few times before. I would also like to add more, but the few times I've seen them in LFS around here they've had ich.

Same story here, when I find them they have ich, and lots of it.

I should add, they do move around, but rarely are they all over the tank. When I had 12 of them they would swim back and forth all day long, it was a great site watching them nose to tail swimming back and forth.

rummynoses are very shy in small groups, which is why man people suggest 12 as a minimum.

That is what I had thought, I might start looking for someone local who wants some more.

The 4 I have are very healthy, they just don't have enough friends and it worries me that they are not as happy as they could be.

Well, I went out this morning and found 2 different LFS with a bunch of Rummy's, and for a nice change none of them looked salt dipped. I picked up 7 (and an albino BN pleco, and 8 black neons) that are all now sitting in QT.

Fingers crossed they make it to the main tank.

I had 20 at one time in my 55, & they were EVERYWHERE!
