running Co2 24/7 question

I would not think one of those would put out enough CO2 24/7 to be of a concern. If you have no fish, so much the better with more CO2.
 
trying to adjust your co2 injection with your regulator, and without a needle valve is gonna be a pain; especially with a 48G tank. If you're gonna do co2 long-term, I'd suggest at least a 5lb tank with a good, quality regulator/needle valve/solenoid unit. ADG sells a very nice all-in-one unit made by Teledyne. I used them for years with never a problem. The solenoid can be connected to a timer so that you can turn the co2 off at night if you want. Once the regulator is set, fine adjustments are made via the needle valve. Once the needle valve on this unit is set, it doesn't wander like some brands that are, IMO, of lesser quality.
