I have 2 AC50s now that I have torn down on of my tanks, I was thinking of running both of them on my 29 gallon...
Does anyone have any suggestions about this? Is it overkill?

I was thinking of doing one AC50 as a physical filtration and having the other be biological.
Should I do that or just have both of them be bio/physical?

Thanks for your input!!

Have them both set up with 1 1/2 foam pads and bio. And overkill no it never hurts to have extra filtration and since HOBs have such limited BIO the other filter will definitely help you out. Run them both and enjoy the clean water. They only take up 12 watts together :)

I always prefer to have 2 HOBs instead of one. (One could be used for emergency purpose for other tank.)

In general, extra filtration never hurt.
You still have to watch your fishes carefully for a couple of weeks.
Most fishes will be accustomed to new rather faster /strong flow. If you find any fish which is not comfortable with new flow after couple of weeks, you better slow down flow by adjusting flow control in AC (not that much helpful though), wrapping a sponge for one of filter tube or using some DIY methods.
