Anyone have one/some? :D

Ah, unfortunatly not... I'd love to have a pet that would outlive me. :( There were 2 in Alabama a couple years ago, when I was visiting a relative, for (get this) 35$ each!! Couldn't get ahold of the border people, and those relatives didn't want me to smuggle tortoises... Well, I would have anyways if I had known they were 300$ here :angryfire:

i would love some. hmmm, why would tortoises be so expensive and illegal to enter into the country. imagine if they got loose and bred outta control... :D

I take care of one at work, it's a sweetie and LOVES strawberries. About once a month I get a customer that, after after asking about the life span, will look at me incredulously and say something like "So you're telling me that some of these things are still Soviet Union tortoises??"

I looked at a forum, and I think they're legal to take into canada... Grrr...

I'm getting one in a few weeks. I managed to track down someone that knows someone that still has some of last years hatchlings, so I'm hoping for a nice captive bred baby.

They're a good beginner tortoise species but keep in mind that they need a varied diet and a lot of space to thrive. And yes they can live long but so can many species of turtles. Heck my box turtles can live to be close to 100 years old.
