Im Gonna Be Gettin A Wolf Fish From An Lfs And Plan On Puttin Him In A 40 Gallon By Himself. I Know Im Gonna Have To Get A Bigger Tank But Wanted To Know About What Size The Fish Can Get Before I Need To Upgrade, Also If Anyone Has Had Any Luck Housing Any Other Fish With It, I Have Two Ornate Bichirs One About 8" And The Other About A Foot. I Know Not To House Them Together But Is There Any Other Fish The Wolf May Tolerate Being In The Tank With It ?

Thanks For The Help

although it wont get that large in a tank obviosuly

I'm not sure but I would think that vid is talking about Hoplias Malabaricus.
I don't have any feedback on them as I have not kept one, I hear they are pretty lazy as long as they are not hungry. That is about all I know. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

How large is the wolf now?

If your 40g tank is 36"x13"x20", but you could keep a healthy Hoplias malabaricus in there until roughly 6 months of age. My 6-month-olds are just about 8". A 48"x18" tank can house one for at least two years, but eventually you'll be better off with a tank with a footprint of at least 48"x24".

I've tried a variety of medium to large cichlids, as well as catfish and other predatory characins to no avail. Hoplias malabaricus will often live with tankmates for months with no problems, and kill everything in the tank in a night. There really won't be any warning, either. They don't, as some fish do, harass and bump/peck at other fishes over time; they grab them by the midsection and rip them apart, or (if small) simply swallow them.
Interestingly enough, the only fish that I have been able to successfully coexist with common wolf fish are other common wolf fish (as long as they're the same size). This has ended in fatality much more frequently than cohabitation, though, so I use the term 'successfully' loosely.

If there is anything else you'd like to know, please ask. I will add that if kept in good conditions they are actually much more active than they seem to be credited for. My big girl swims all over her tank during the day (and more so at night).

You can mix your wolf fish with same size oscars.I know that because i had a 4inch wolf fish mixed with 2oscars the same size and they got along fine and grew 10inches in ayear then the wolf fish jumped out my tank and died.so keep your tank covered.

ohh and they grow 20inches long. You really don't need a big tank u can get a 3foot long tank and 20inches wide.cause they really dont move alot only when their hungry.
