ever since my male ram pride died last night, his partner joy isnt doing to well :/ she went from swimming and happy to a little lethargic, now she chills on my tower :/ i guess you were all right, i dont think shell make it through the next few days. I like rams alot but not enough to buy them just to die.. i guess they conditions really do need to be perfect.. ill just find some new fish that aren't so difficult to take care of and get to love them as i do rams. I really like Green Terror Jack Dempsys, are they difficult to take care off

Well at least you aren't heartless and buy fish because you like them without proper enviroment
Taking care of fish does take a little trial and error
good luck on your next fish!

your post made me sad too... :(
dempseys are a hardy fish. there easy to take care of because they're hardy like that. they can be put in a community but needs to be in solitary as they grow older because they get territorial.

I gave up on blue rams after never being able to keep them alive more than 6 months. I finally had a mating pair but after three spawns the female died, and a few days later, the male.

I am sorry to hear about your rams. I have a pair of them I have had for 3 months. They are the second pair I bought. The first pair I lost due to cycling in a new tank set up. The third pair was more colorful, and breeding right away. They died also. The pair I still have was bought a week or two before the third pair, and have moved them in and out of the 29 gallon tank for month or so. I think it is a quality of stock problem with these fish. I will probably not replace these if they die, as I hate having fish die in the search for good stock.

Green Terrors and Jack Dempseys are 2 different species of fish. Both grow large and are aggressive fish. They need larger tanks - at least 55 gal, in my opinion and preferably 75 gal. The males of both average at least 9" or so and the footprint of a 75 gal is more comfortable for them to maneuver. They can be kept with Cichlids with similar dispositions who have the size and ability to protect themselves.

If you liked the blue rams, I would look into Bolivan Rams. They have a similar look and disposition of the Blue Ram but are a much heartier and more forgiving fish.

I was looking into bolivian! i like them too, i dk well see i like blue rams so much but wont buy them just to die, thanks for everyones advise!

And joy died :( agh jeese. i got a whole 20 gallon to stock and a sw tank to add 2 clowns too.. this blows i loved those rams. im gonna give bolivian rams a shot and get my dam dojos back cuase i loved them for their witty antics and the laughs they provided!
