 i just added the final fish to my tank, a pair of tiger angels, they were perfect, but today i woke up and saw the male dead, after thinking about their behavior i found out how he died, the fiddler crabs and danios, with out knowing killed him. The danios eat the flakes super fast and the angels were new so they were timid, the female ate a but of fod that fell down, but non was left for the male, no matter how much i droped in, the danios can put it away. The crabs i had special wafers that were to big for fish mouths then they nibble on so thats how they survived, well basicly the danios slowly starved the make angel and when he was weak and/or dead the fiddler crabs tore him up, i woke up to the terrible site of my male and female fiddlers grabing at the angels once pretty fins. I was soo mad that i took the zebras and crabs back to my lfs and now i just have the female angel< I stressed her out ALOT Tryting to get to danios in the net, so after ward i covered the tank with a dark towel and i turn all the lkights off so make it feel safe, when i came home tonight, it was still a bit timid but pretty much active, ill buy her a new mate soon. :dive2:

It can be challenging feeding more timid fish around active eaters.

I know some people hate to stress their fish but what I generally would do with timid eaters is feed them on one side of the tank and attract the dominant PIGGY eaters to the other side of the tank with food that way they both ate. If that didnt work I would use my hand to "block" the other fish from coming over to where the angels are eating but it does slightly stress fish out. However I had mbuna cichlids that adapted to this and knew that when my hand was in the tank they would all chill on the left side and not approach the right side until my hand was out of the tank. It wasnt out of fear....its almost like they knew it was "quiet" time

I believe fiddler crabs can kill fish.

It would take a long time to starve a fish to death. A fish can go for weeks without food.

Sorry to hear it though.

yeah but like he said they were a new pair...who knows when the last time was they actually ate (assuming thats how they died)

Couldn't agree more - this is how i acclimatised my angels in a tank with Zebra Danios - I basically feed into the out flow of my filter as the danios are quick enough to chase the food around, then, wet my finger slightly and stick a few flakes to it. I then dangle this in the water and the flakes sink rather than float giving the angels a chance

Once they have settled in they will make your danios look like they are on some calorie controlled diets! When i feed bloodworm or mysis (both forzen) I have to target feed my danios! The angels are varacious feeders.

I lost an Altum to the same reason - couldn't even feed him with 1 worm in a pair of tongs! My existing angels all took a good 2 weeks to settle in and become greedy

Well was the fish visibly emaciated when it was introduced? Because it would likely be that way before it died.
