sad news :-(

maybe, im sorry it didnt make sense... i didnt see it happen
im sorry though:)

Yeah, I came home once to find my prize female betta on the carpeted floor. The cat had knocked over her betta hex and she had flipped off the wet counter and onto the kitchen carpet. I have no idea how long she lay there, but the cats probably ran off when they spilled the water and didn't come back to find her, THANKFULLY!! Her scales were almost completely dried up on one side and it took weeks for her to regain her color, but I'll be darned if she didn't survive it!!

Bettas are very hardy. Perhaps your cat assaulted the little guy some once he was down to nothing in the bowl? If she stepped on him or overstressed him in that fragile state, that's probably what did him in. More than the lack of water. How big was the bowl you kept him in?

Yeah... I had smaller bowls for my fish, too, but since I have cats, I bought the betta hexes that come with lids to keep my kitties OUT!!! :P

You had a betta in 1/8g?! Are you kidding me? The poor fish was probably thankful for it to happen...

Well good for you. I bet he loved the space. I give mine 10g but whatever.

I kept mine, bred mine, and recieved tons of compliments on their vivid colors, full finnage, and all around health. I kept them in 1/2 gallon betta cubes or slightly smaller betta hexes. They stayed in my room which was kept around 70 degrees, had regular water changes, and they all lived full and productive lives. Some of my females were some of the most colorful and productive egg-layers in my area at the time and were often mistaken for short-finned males!!

Say what you want about betta keeping and how they require this and must have that. Some of us do just fine doing what we do with what we have. *nods*
