another way to save $$$... don't buy "hermit crab shells". you can get shells that are perfect for them at many craft stores and sections such as walmart's craft section, michaels, joanns, a.c. moore, etc.. they're especially easier to find while the little guys are still small. once they get bigger, you may have to talk to someone who does the ordering or order online to get them when you want them in the size you need. however... you won't be paying $9.99 for "hermit crab shell" or "pair of hermit crab shells" ... more like $5 for "bag of random seashells". one bag i grabbed back when had something like 13 or 14 usable shells in it. i just tossed them in some peroxide, grabbed a rag and a q-tip and cleaned them out, let them dry and watched 2 of my little guys change shells back and forth that night. freakish looking, but very cool!
