Can't have too many Tiger Barbs...

I had 2 false SAE's (false Siamensis, not flying fox) in my tank - so far I've only been able to get one out. I tried the "bottle trap" and caught the first one within 5 minutes. The other one wants nothing to do with it. I've been trying to catch him since last week. He's a fast bugger - not sure I can get him without tearing up the tank.

I want to put 2-3 SAE's in to get at some BBA that is growing on some of the plants. Any comments on compatibility?

False SAE are one of the hardest fishes I have ever had to catch- esp in a planted tank. I used the bottle trap and it took me a few days to nab all 5.

What sort of food are you putting into it as bait? try switching. Also stop feeding the tank. A hungry fish will go into the trap more readily than a well fed one.

Good idea on not feeding. How long should I stop - 2-3 days?

I put algae wafers in when I caught the first one. I also tried cucumber (which they LOVE) alone and a combo with the wafers. The thing with the bottle trap is I have to watch it - several of my tiger barbs and loaches went in there. So far, Mr. fSAE seems to be smarter than the average fish.

I have 5 SAE's and two FSAE's in my plant tank and they get along fine. The FSAE seems to like cleaning the glass while the SAE's focus on the plants. There are no aggression issues to speak of and the fish have been together 2 years. It's a 3' 65g tank.
