A coupla months ago I bought two 1 1/4" fish that Petsmart ID'd as SAE's. I put them in an 18 gal tall tank with three Sunset Honey Gourami's. They both looked identical at the time, kinda grey in color with a horizontal dark gray stripe.
Now one has turned a cream color w/no stripe and is larger than the other. The other one is still the original color and about 1 1/2" long.
I thoght I had a pair, but obviously I don't.
Can anyone make a guess at what the light yellowish one is?
I don't need an algae eater that is going to be large.

Thank you
Charles

The small one has uneven stripes, the yellowish one has a darkened area on the back 1/3 of his body. It's not balck - sorta cream gray.

Thank you for replying

it's a pretty common call for the Pet store to call them SAE's when they are in fact CAE's.... if you don't want them as CAE's though, I would return them.... it sounds to me like you are already aware of their aggression factor as well as size as they mature.

Sorry to say, but neither of those fish belong in 18 gal tank for any amount of time.
