SAEs fighting?

Some of the pictures are blurry, but most of the pictures look like SAEs. I have and still keep them. Assuming they're all the same, they are SAES. As far as fighting, my SAE I currently have doesn't fight, but he's greedy when it comes to food, eating right off the surface of the water. I could see some aggression in establishing rank in the group, but nothing that would cause any permanent harm.

Yeah the more I looked at the sticky and other photos of the various types, the more sure I got mine were true SAEs. The quality of the photos does leave a bit to be desired though, and I can see how they look more silvery in the photos than they actually are.

And I love my rummies too -- can't wait to add to my school! :grinyes:

Do it! I have 8 in one tank (20G) and 20 in another (55).... I'm going to move the 8 to the 55 and then I MIGHT be done. :lipssealedsmilie:

Disclaimer- I would never recommend my stocking levels to anyone else. I likes big filters. lol

Ron, Lucy showed photos of the true SAE's, young and old. I have been through this and observed their appearances changing as they mature.

I have not had anyone else so far tell me they look like anything other than true SAEs. I bought them through LiveAquaria which I have always had great success with and they assured me they were true SAEs. Looking at perhaps a dozen sites found on google, in every photo comparison I would say my fish look like true SAEs, and do not resemble flying foxes or false SAEs at all in my opinion. A couple of friends who have more fishkeeping experience than myself also assured me they were definitely true SAEs.

Also, as described in a couple of my replies above, usually the black band is very solidly black with no white reticulations whatsoever. When they were fighting, the black stripe grayed out almost completely, and when that photo was taken it was just beginning to get color back. Within the hour stripe was completely solid black again. Also, I don't know what you are talking about with the belly being slightly lighter than the back? Not exaggerating, I just went through 30+ photos on google images and pretty much every single true SAE had a lighter belly than back. Also have double-checked the sticky on this forum and I have no question they are SAEs.

I agree with you, Lucy because these are undoubtedly true SAE's.

They actually look far less different from Garra taeniata and Garra cambodgiensis. Even the mouth shape appearance can help you distinguish quite a big difference between them more than just body coloration and patterns.
