I have some D.I.Y. projects going on in my 55gal. chiclid tank. What I want to do is paint all my caves black, can I find some paint that will be safe to use? thanks, Wayne

have read in many forums of people painting the back of their tanks, with acrylic spray can paint from home depot........even some stuff called fleckstone.......also in home depot...........shud be ok for caves

There is a huge difference in painting the outside back of the tank and painting something which is submerged in the tank. Most hardware store paints are completely unsuited to underwater use.

I've never seen or heard of a black 2-part epoxy paint. I think your best bet is to either use black latex paint and fully cover your caves, then coat these completely with West System Epoxy. This is a clear epoxy for the most part, although slight yellowing occurs. Your other option is to just buy plain old 100% BLACK silicone. This should have no anti-fungal or anti-mildew properties in it and be aquarium safe stuff! Hope this helps out!
