Salamanders in CA

I guess I'll buy fire salamanders. I already have a tank that will be set up and everything, but where can I buy them in LA county?

I went to my petstore today and they had 3 actual mudpuppies in their tanks. I have a 20 gallon long but it's being owned by my gecko right now. Is it possible for me to build a wooden tank for my gecko and make the 20g into a mudpuppy habitat? What would the setup require?

I think it would just be easier to buy another aquarium. I mean 10 gallon tanks run like $10-$12 bucks now a days.

Don't waterdogs need a 20g?
BTW I already bought his tank and set him up, he's doing pretty good I believe but sometimes gets annoyed by tiny white leech-like worms on him.

Your going to need a really good filter on that tank and I recommend over filtration. If you can no heater and keep it in a cool location.
This way he will stay a water dog for a long while.
But if you dont keep the water super clean with regular water changes twice a week and super filtration, he will turn into a tiger salamander in no time flat.

I wouldn't really be surprised if the mudpuppy actually did change, he faced many hardships at the LFS. Some overcrowding, cloudy-ish water, worms, and room tempurature water. I wouldn't want to force change on him, but it would be pretty interesting if he did change.

Wait, are you talking about the Necturus sp. or the larvae of tiger salamanders? Because I am actually noticing his tail shrink just a little.
