Salt and livebearers

twig said:
I think for livebearers like mollys and even guppies they can tolerate salt because their natural habitat sometimes encourages them to do so but it's not natural and the best thing to look at is breeders breed them in fresh water... >.>;

I've heard guppies can live in saltwater and not just brackish conditions teehee
i think thats kind of odd though

Yes but it's not saltwater it's just added salt.

Keep working on that website. I like your info on mixing the different colors of mollies. Might add pictures and more information.

Thanks that helps! We still got ways to go the platy page only has 2 sentences! Yikes! But I think the rest is pretty good.

My personal experience with Black Mollies is that they were healthier, more active and happier fish when I added salt to the water. I added 1tbs per 5 gallons. However I did use the aquarium salt you buy at the LFS. That is my personal experience.
Just a thought for you . . . but did you know that 1 tbsp per 5 gallons is more salt than found in Lake Tang, the saltiest cichlid lake? Yep. It's actually 12x more salt than is found in that lake.

Mollies need *hard* water, high in TDS. Adding salt only increases the TDS. If you really want them to live long, healthy lives, either make it brackish or use Magnesium, calcium and potassium to make the water harder, not salt.
