salt killing my plants?

lights out

The reasoning behind keeping the lights off is it helps prevent the free swimming ick parasite from finding a host, plus they're attracted to light. If the ich parasite can't find a host withen 48 hours it dies. As far as light effecting medications I've hear about it but nothing I can remember specific to the ones your using.

You say you used quick cure....

Theres your fist problem.

You say you use salt.....

All salts will harm or stunt plant growth.

Find a solution that will not harm plants, youl have to ask around as not many people are aware that some of these medicnes can harm plants. Quick cure also killed some of my plants, but luckily this was when my set-up was relatively new and not over stocked with many plants.....

How long have you been dosing for Ich?

I started quick cure on dec 10, and after seeing no improvement on the fish I did a 50% water change on the 15th when I switched to salt. I will exchange some tank water on the 25th with fresh water, and do more water changes every few days all with fresh water. when I feel the water is fresh and the tank is stable again, and the plants look better (they are in a bucket now with heated/fertilized water) I will add them back to the tank.
I just took the plants out yesterday, so I think it's too soon to see much improvement, but I don't think they look any worse. I also shimmied up the flouresent light so it shines at the plants now, not in the tank.

Typically, Ich takes a week or 10 days longer to get rid of in most cases, than many people think. When you no longer see it on the fish, give it an extra week before stopping treatment or it may re-occur.

hmm. maybe I'll give the treatment an extra 2 days then, to make sure. I've heard ich can be eliminated from a tank, and if possible this is what I'd like to do. now that the fish look healthy and the plants are seperated, I don't think an extra few days would hurt. thanks
