i doing it as a DIY perspective, just like how you make a stand for your tank, the cheapest and cost effective way, im doing the same with salt.

and its all salt in the end, one is fake, one is real, just like Splenda and Sugar, both do the same thing, just in different ways. ones natural ones chemicals, and i dont believe in any kinda of chemical in my tanks, No meds, no water conditioner, no parameter changing, via un-natrual substances.

i in no way see its cruel, and why should i leave it up to the people with the money, why cant i do it for myself. you people are stange sometimes.

Making a DIY stand have NIL effect on anything around you, using salt that is not designed to be used in this manner DOES have effect. It has added trace elements which the fish and coral need to grow in a sustained enviroment. Both do not so the same job, else we would all be using dirt cheap salt and still haveing the same effects of an expensive comparable brand.

I am not here to argue a case, i mearly here to backup that facts that have been presented, if you so choose to ignore what people have said in this thread, then that is you wish and we shall be here to help if/when problems arise. But, please understand, that you have to accept other peoples opinions and observations based on practical experience...

Any issues arise, just shout up...

i just noticed this today, on my bucket of reef crystals it says
Warning: Not for human Consumption, May irritate skin or eyes in dry form.

Now on sea salt your meant to eat it, and ive never had a rash or anything while using sea salt, there should be a difference there....

Plus the hobby is becomming more and more environmental each day, clownfish are mass bred and i think they are the first saltwater fish to be massed produced (help me out here). Fragging corals can be easy and is recommended for people with corals too big for there tanks. We have aquacultured live rock that is just man made and not taken from our reefs, everyday there are new greener ways of doing things in this hobby. Sythentic sea salt where you wont be needing to take salt from the ocean. Hopefully one day we will find a way of producing most fish and lfs will have tank bred fish only, the freshwater hobby is getting closer to this level with most commonly found freshwater fish being tank bred. Wont take long for the saltwater hobby to get to that level.

If you are going to do a comparison between these two salts, do it the human way, use test kits.

Salt isnt expensive, i though it would be but i am wrong, it costs around 36 dollars to get a bucket of reef crystals salt that treats 160 gallons of water. If i change around 1 gallon a week or 4 gallons a month, the salt will last me a few years! And that is a trusted and recommended salt company.

First off why "ASK" about something if you are just going to say to hell with the responces. Also YOU could live in a cave eating only raw meat and drinking stale water, you could live in a barn stall and still not die, but are you going to be as healthy as you could...NOT A CHANCE. So why hurt the fish by being a cheap skate??? I'm sorry but if you are that broke that you have to use people salt you have NO BUSINESS keeping a salt water tank, and if it is for DIY or experiment purposes I hope you have all the data and equipment you need to properly do so...How would you like it if you where throw in a jail cell full of sodomites just to "see if it will work" bet that doesn't sound like fun. You sir have no sence of ethics or morals and people like you are the ones that have PETA hounding on us responsible fish keepers. So have fun wasting your money and subjecting poor little defenceless animals that have been proven to have nervious systems and feeling to a life of utter hell.
