i am new to this hobby and read a few months ago to add salt to the water when changing it. I have been adding a teaspoon of table salt to the water. Is this Ok or should I buy aquarium salt. I have a 65 gallon and the fish are healthy and happy except for an Ick outbreak from 3 new fish.

There's no simple answer to this - it does depend upon, for example, what fish you have got. Salt is beneficial to a few fish but not to all.

It's also a topic that can be guaranteed to create some dissention and probably the propogation of a myth or two ;)

Did I read that correctly? Iodized salt is ok for supplementing aquariums?

You did, and it is.

If salt is required at all, that is.

That's myth #1 drawn out of the woodwork...

He's correct! Faramir that is.

I'm holding on cuz' here we go again!!!!!

I'm not dippin' my oar in the water this time. I'm just going to lie back against the cushions here and trail my fingers in the water and watch the patterns of clouds and trees... Break out the Saltines and anchovies, willya?
