I just got this new coralife 30" 65 wat freshwater light for my 29 gal tank and i love it. except it pissed me off when i noticed that the light doesn't extend the entire lenghth of the balast. so now i have this dim spot that's agravating.

so is there then another compact flouresnt blub thats longer?

then one of my good friends is getting out of the saltwater and wanted to give me this light

I was thinking since it uses 2 lights on oppsite sides, it covers the entire tank. so what if i instead of using the saltwater lights, i use the freshwater ones, would that work?

or is 130 watts overkill for a 29 gallon tank?

I am actually hoping to pick the light up today and its supposed to be for 130watts. It is coming from a saltwater tank so the lights will need to be changed to benefit a regular/planted tank.. If you add it up thats almost 4.5wpg sounds like a bit of an overkill and a great chance for algae, but with a balance it can be great. You can always try having just one bulb on, but still wont help with the dim spot you talking about.

edit: and as far as bulbs, if you go for longer it will be more watts so you risk damaging the fixture

it'll be great for growing algae..

the light for marine tanks is different than for FW tanks. you will need to get different bulbs (at over $20 apiece)

the 65 watt should be fine..is the light directly on the tank or is it on a stand lifting the light up and allowing it to spread a bit.

at 65 watt you should be okay to grow most plants at just over 2 wpg you can addCO2 at this level to help the plants.
if you are not growing plants then watch for increase algae..you should actually add them to compete for nutrients.

as for a dim spot you may consider lower light plants to fill in that area.

pick up the light?

u know old man john from D.C.?

hes not gonna be here until sunday. how the hell do u know john?

anyway, i know but i was making a full CRS/RCS set up with some high quality plants. Actually I need a little algae for the shrimps.

dam if only i could find a light to fit the entire length.

its kinda crappy right now but i'm working on it especially since i messed up on the filter and didn't have enough space to put it in the back.

u know what i thought about it, thats super overkill im just gonna stick to my plan 65 watt. its nice and pretty and compact
