I have been reseraching SW and enjoying all the reading. This pl is a great place and cant seem to leave. One of my biggest questions is how long can a SW coral or fish can be left unattended. We take 1 or 2 week long vacations a year and the only thing I have read is that a SW cant be left for more than 2 days tops. Probably not going to get into it for another 6 months or so. Thanks for your help.

If you have some automated lights, water topping off system, feeding system it should be ok. You might not even need the feeder depending on what kind of stock you have in your tank. It would depend on your substrate, type of animals. If you tell us a little more about your tank specs we would be able to help you much better. Some of your inhabitants really don't need all that much care.
hth & sorry if it's a bit vague.

Thanks for the help. I really dont have the specs only that it will be 30 to 55 gallon. Just wanted somone to say it was possible with the proper setup just didnt believe that it could not be left alone for over a weekend. Thanks again for the help.

On a 55g a week would be no problem. Two weeks is gonna be pushing it, water is going to get low so sg will raise, ph may be unstable, and fish are going to be starving. Automated lights are a must even when not on vacation, timers are $10 at walmart.

Thanks for the replies. Automation is great I use timers on my FW. We would only be gone a week at a time . The feeding should be ok I have family feeding dog, cat and FW tank and friend that owns a pet sitting business www.furfeathersandfins.com. They check on ours I check on theirs. It seems that if the basics are met my family wont have to be trained to handle any water changes, crisis, testing more of the detailed stuff.
