It can't be this easy can it?

Ok, so I am going to show my ignorance about SW here. This is going to be my first SW setup and the tank I have has a built in Filtration setup. This is what I am thinking. I know there will be multiple problems with this. Please help me with this setup! Thanks!

I don't think you can fit an in sump skimmer in (1). Also, you should refrain from having miracle mud in (5), since it can be easily disturbed and sucked into your return pump. Everything else seems reasonable to me--just be sure to clean those foam blocks often.

Thanks!

I have a 4.5" by 6" space for a skimmer. Here are 3 that say they will fit. Any opinions on them or should I just go with an HOB?

(remora) AquaC Urchin Series (up to 75gal.) 6"x3" footprint

Marinelane Marine Pro (up to 10
0gal.) 5 ⁵⁄₈"x 4¹⁄₈" footprint

2 - Visi Jet's (yp to 55gal. each) 2" diameter footprints each

Also: So, skip the mud and mangroves and go with live rock sitting on egg crate or will sand be ok with the pump?

i agree with amph. As far as the skimmer int he first compartment, it owuld probably have to be HOB. Either that, or you will ahve it sticking way out of the tank, as they can't be TOO low.
And yes, if you use foam blocks or filter floss, you would have to make sure to clean them often.
for the last compartment, a bit of sand or lr would be a-ok.
You can always do heaters in any of the compartments. The last one would be okay too depending on the flow rate.
What about adding a maxijet with some airline like I mentioned before for the skimmer? It sucks a surprising amount of air. And in reality, that is the largest part of a skimmer; the ratio of air:water that it sucks. If you want to go a HOB skimmer route, you can always find any one where the pump fits in the first chamber and then drains into the second.

as far as the foam, it all depends. Lots of people use it, lots of people don't You just have to make sure it is cleaned often or else detritus can build up. If it were me, I probably wouldn't use it. Or may put some filter floss in occationaly just to clean things up a bit. Instead, I would put some carbon and phosban in a media bag on the racks.
For the skimmer, take a maxi-jet 1200 and take off the screen on the intake. Then you just take a normal piece of airline tubing and stick it in the intake. It will squeeze through area that holds the impeller and put it in the right amount, itll start pulling a ton of air. There is a venturi part to put on the outtake of the maxijet, but I've found that this way pulls a lot more air. Then you can just put the maxijet under the skimmer are point it up.

Good looking out! Thanks! You wouldn't happen to have a pic of the skimmer setup you're referring to would you. Again thanks for the help!
