What is your tank size, in dimension? Also, what would be the maximum that would be suggested as far as water changes go? Sounds like I will need to keep a maximum number here with appropriate warning if the setup goes beyond that level.

48*20*24 of 100g in this case. Generally 20% every two weeks is a minimum, upto maybe 50% max. So maybe a 40%-100% per month range might be a good guideline.

Basically a lot of reverse engineering. I have many fundamentally sound general formula that I continue to tinker until it gives me the results I need. I realized long ago that a set of general formula alone will get me no where because of many exceptions so I allow those as well.

In this case for Blue Tangs, I checked couple of web sites and went by with their stocking suggestions, tuning Blue Tang attributes. So for 2 Tangs, what should be the requirement?

Maybe what you were getting at makes some sense not because of sizing issues, but because you probably wouldn't want to put two of any tang together in that size tank as they would not get along. Capacity wise, 2 would be fine. A larger tang, like a hippo, would not be appropriate to have more than 1 though, sizing wise. Two blue tang 'sized' tangs could exist in a 125g probably, but two blue tangs together probably would need a 200+.

So in the end, maybe it's just the reasoning that was confusing, the advice was actually fairly sound.

I will poke around on it some more now, and see if i can provide any more feedback.
