I have salvini fry! After isolating my rogue male in a 40BR, I added two young ladies to see if that would help him settle down a bit. He killed one, but today I looked in the tank and found free-swimming fry!

So, I guess I need to read up on what to do. For now I'll probably just leave them in the tank (which they actually share with a raphael cat) and see how things go. Then maybe see if I can sell the offspring or maybe use them as feeders.....Whatever happens, I'm excited! It's fun to get a surprise that makes you feel like you're doing a good job creating a healthy environment for your fish. Woot!

Nice fish, congrats on the fry. But more importantly... :) ...what's that plant in the front? Almost looks like oak leaves...welll, not really but I can't think of anything else to compare it to. Don't recall ever seeing anything quite like it in aquatic plants.

tia.. :)

Actually, it's a fake plant (silk) :)

Thanks for the response!

Thanks, all! My avatar is the male -- he is 5" of raw cichlid power! Don't have any pics of the female, but will try to get some today -- she's much smaller, but very yellow and pretty cool looking I think.

Updated pic....baby's are starting to look more like mini-salvinis now and less like little commas:

They look healthy! Good job did you leave the parents with the fry?

Thanks all. Yes, I have the parents in with the fry -- I also had a raphael cat in them for a while, but dad started going after him so I moved the raphael to another tank.

So far, dad mostly hides in a pot (which is what he's always done), and mom watches over the kids.
