same old discus song

Unless I am mistaken, Seachem's Prime water conditioner removes chlorine and chloramines while detoxifying ammonia and nitrites as well. It is highly concentrated and reasonably priced.

You could try using Prime instead of two water conditioners.

Discus are a shy fish, In my opinion, and there are several others here, you should have more than one... I only had 3 for a long time, and they were always hiding..24-7, I didnt even see them eat... Now I have 5 and they never hide.

being alone in very stressful to a schoaling / schooling fish, and that may be part of the problem.. when building a school of discus, it is very difficult to add only 1 fish at a time, because the oder fish in the tank will constantly pick on it.. I found that out the hard way too, I bought a tiny juvinile turquoise that was picked n badly by the others...I got another discus (making 5 total) and everything seemed to cancel out, and now all is good...

I think a 30 is kind of small for discus too though...

bi weekly meaning 2 per week?

I ask as some consider it as 1 every 2 weeks.

"Now he is listless, very dark, shows poor eating and never comes out of hiding."

actually this is a tell tale sign of internal parasites.

as mentioned discus are grazers..and their physiology is such that they tend to look for food all day. they require several small feedings per day.
while I believe discus are more comfortable in a shoal or school they can be kept solitary or in pairs.
they just may not exhibit typical discus behavior.

I would look closely at the feeding schedule and possible internal parasite.
these can take weeks before the signs show up.

my SOP is to QT new fish(discus and angels ) for 4-6 weeks and treat for internal parasites.

at first thougt i would think perhaps to much action inthe tank personally i would just focus the tank on the discus

dont know much about them but i know they like thier personal space

Ok, the loaches are not loaches per se... they are in the loach family but, I am ashamed to say I do not remeber their names.
Any pics of these loaches?

In terms of being to active for discus, they have got to be the laziest fish I have ever seen! Once upon a time, they used to eat the occasional snail in the tank, but now they won't even do that... point is, based on what the comments indicate, I do not think they are a problem in this case... any thoughts?
I can think of kuhli loaches for one and they don't eat snails although occasional is probable. Loaches aren't often slackers and can be too active thus the other tankmates may feel harassed by their constant movements. Most loaches prefer cooler waters with powerful currents.

Final questions... the discus I have was fine, happy, healthy and active for months with never a hiccup until about a week ago. Now he is listless, very dark, shows poor eating and never comes out of hiding. This is the same old song I have with each one. Can someone tell me WHY??? I mean, I concede all of your excellent comments, and I know things are not necessarily optimal, but he was doing so well! Did he just wake up one day and decide to fade away? I would do much to save him... he doesn't act like he has a parasite, etc... he is just badly, BADLY stressed.
As much as I agree with star_rider that this could be an issue with internal parasites, discus need to be kept in groups where they do their best parading around the tank. Keeping them singly is not helping matters as much as the internal parasites.

I say dose the tank with prazi pro and find out who is passing worms. Also, cut down the fert dosing and stop the CO2. Discus do not like alot of water chem changes or any changes at all for that matter. Some of my fish get upset about daily water changes but get even more upset about not enough.
