Converted my 55 JD tank to a pool filter sand substrate yesterday. Love the look of the sand:

But only one problem:

It shows the fishie poop too easy! That pile is from overnight, believe from my Plec.

I see three solutions:

A Quit feeding the Plec so he don't poop.

B Get rid of the Plec (not a bad option-he's getting BIG)

C Or resign my self to vaccing it up everyday

What say you, Oh Fonts Of Fishie Wisdom?

Oh!

Here's a "Before" shot:

If you aren't opposed to getting rid of him, then thats what I'd do. :) He needs to eat, so I wouldn't stop feeding him, but when you feed him, he's gonna poop.

Is he a common plec? If so, you'll have to find him a new home eventually.

Actually, that was a poor attempt at humor..

Yep "Ralph" is a common plec; was 2 inches long when I got him, now pushing a good 9 inches. The thought has crossed my mind about getting him a new home...

Sorry! :) I wasn't sure if you were joking or serious.

How about a low positioned power head to not let the poo settle on the bottom so the filter can pick it up?

I had the same problem he/she had, and I also have a Penguin filter, and an ancient powerhead, but I adjusted the flow so the sand isn't stirred up but picks up the poo that lays on the bottom, it doesen't have to be like a blender to get the poo off of the bottom long enough to find the filter.
