How much depth/bottom should there be using fine crushed coral? I'm wondering now if I have too much, and if so, how I can get rid of some now that my 75 gallon tank is full, and a cloud (see my previous thead).Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi again. Please see your other thread regarding crushed coral...

You can also find more out by doing a search on here or searching the internet.

As far as how much substrate to put in- it really is personal preference whether you want a shallow or deep sandbed. I would say it also depends on what inhabitants you eventually want in your tank too. For example, some people have 1" sandbeds while others have 4". Do you plan on having any burrowing livestock at all?

Yeah, I guess you've got a point, it is a personal preference. My base depth is about 1-2 inches. I would eventually like to get a frogfish, and from the little studying I've done, they like to burrow. I have a Snowflake Eel right now and I'm sure it appreciates having the deep bed to burrow in as well. I'd also like to get a Scorpionfish and some cool crabs and shrimp. I am a little concerned though because I'd like to be able to observe my critters, and if they're buried all the time, it might get a little boring in there. Any other recommendations for cool fish/critters that like to burrow?

Thanks again for your reply and help!

yikes...sry to rain in on ur parade but...horseshoe crabs can get over 2 feet long and should never be kept in personal aquariums...and for thr crushed coral id say 0 inches unless ur gona move all ur rocks out every week or two and siphon all the sand....id recommend either 2 inches of aragonite or a plemum with about 6 inches.
