Sand or gravel?

yep, just scoop out the gravel and replace it with sand.

In that aquarium I used playsand from Walmart. That will work, just make sure you rinse it really well before you put it in your aquarium. And when you put the sand in the aquarium be careful to not just pour it in. I use to take a cup full of sand and water and gently dump it it along the bottom of the aquarium. The sand wont settle right away and will cloud pretty bad if you don't geti t as close to the bottom as possible.

My cories always did spendidly on medium-sized gravel. I also think gravel is MUCH easier to clean than sand... and no need to worry about those poisonous gas pockets I was reading about in another article here... O__o;;

But I prefer a very simple and hassle-free approach to my aquariums, too.

i took my fish out when doing it. just wanted to make sure everything would be ok and that i didnt scoop up some of the fish. i used a big 7-11 cup. took out about 1/2 the water and cup by cup until it was all out. i would also check the water for the next week make sure the tank doesnt go though a mini cycle.

I like sand too, recently switched over from gravle to sand a few months ago.

And il tell you its alot easyer to clean.

Apparently sand is indeed easier to clean.

The reason being is that it's so dense that the poop can't get down into it and instead stays on the surface where it is easily swept up by your current and taken into a filter, or, syphoned out.
