Sand questions

All the pool sand around here is brown, i'am looking for sand in the lighter range, white or off white will do, Aragonite looks like an option.......

probably a really stupid question....but can you used crushed coral or sand with ugf / rugf??

Also, read a website that said crushed coral was unsuitable for african cichlids because it was too sharp - is that right?

A good sand question if i may....how about tank cleaning? I can't imagine that you would do it the same way as gravel vacing or do you? Seems that you would be losing sand?

Any thoughts of a sand/gravel mixture? Just curious.

For vacuuming I use a 1/2" clear rigid pipe connected to a flexible hose. Keep the pipe just off the surface of the sand and only vacuum the surface. You don't need to stir it up like gravel since everything sits on top of the substrate. It takes a little practice to get used to it and you may lose a little sand evertime, but it is not a big problem.

Sand and gravel do not make a good mix IMO. The sand will eventually settle to the bottom.

I have play sand in my tank but find it is just a little too fine. I would use the pool filter sand although you don't have much choice in color.

Eco-Complete looks good but is on the darker side for me, I saw some white sand at the fs but it was like powder, ...........

Just be advised crushed coral /aragonite will change your water chemistry, thats what I use on my brackish tank. The 'sugar' sized aragonite is the consistency of sand.
