never mind the sick oscar (i still dont know what is going on with him). this is 100% silica sand for pool filters. i paid 18 per 50 lb bag. much cheaper than the crap they sell at the fish store.

Nice black sand.

I'd love to see a picture of the Quikrete medium sand. They had bags of it at Home Depot, but none out that I could see.

Wow! I like that contrast. How much was that? Is it kind of heavy, as in not too sensitive towards python cleaning?

Yeah, it doesn't get sucked up at all, anything that gets pulled up falls back down pretty quickly. I got it for $20 for a 50 lb bag. It is actually not a fish product and it is not sold in stores, so you have to call around to find it. Here is a link to find a distributor near you:

Also, here is where I found out about it, it is one of the longest discussion threads ever, LOL

ill try to get a couple pics tomorrow but it got the 30 mesh sand blasting sand from HD for 3.50 per 50 lb sack. 3 sacks took care of a 135g tank. looks great, its really fine sand which is what i prefer. its the same tan color you see at the beach. to clean it you just wave your python right over the sand to stir up the waste and it sucks right up, doesnt bother the fish.

now if my V. Zonatus would quit excavating the darn thing.
