Interesting you say that SandSifters cannot climb glass. I have seen mine from time to time up the glass, it may be though it is climbing the aglea on the glass.

If there are things to grab onto, they can sometimes get a bit up onto an object. Or, could be different species, all called the same thing. The one I have can not climb on anything--I've seen it try to get on a rock to go after an algae tab, and it could not.
