Sand Substrate for my 75 gal???

but that didn't answer my previous question at all. 0=)

how much suction will a sponge reduce from the filter?

I still don't see why you'd need a sponge over the intake. As long as you don't get super fine sand that won't sink, you will be fine.

Tahitian moon sand, if thats what you found, is heavy enough not to float in the water. Even if the fish move it around, its not going in the filter. Just don't have an intake that is really close to the sand.......in a 75g tank, you shouldn't have to worry about that.

I believe we are overthinking things here......;)

ya, i am getting the tahitian moon sand. alright. i just don't want to mess up my filter.

I use pool filter sand in mine, big enough to not get sucked up and small enough to look like sand*, and it is wayyy cleaner than play sand IMO. 50pound bag for 9.99 at leslie's pool supply.

Does the pool sand help in raising the ph like crushed coral?

nope
