Sand substrate question

owy...couple of things I picked up on your post.
First off...you're not a loser. Don't ever say that about yourself. (dr. phil coming out in me after dealing with teenage son ;o)
The most important thing was leaving your filter on during this process. Just dumping it in, you had to turn it off and keep it off until the sand settled. While the water will still be cloudy..when the grains settled you could turn it back on and let the filter media start capturing the fine particulates. But, if you would have used the glass method, it would have turned out much better for ya with less tylenol consumed.
you didn't have to dump out the sand. now that it was in the tank, it is just a waiting game for it to clear up.
