It's used for pool filters:) They have sand filters to maintain pools, and it's a fairly coarse and attractive sand (IMO). I've only seen it in tan.
There is some stuff that 3M makes that comes in all sorts of colors, called color quartz, but it's more pricey.

Wow! I love some of those colors!

And your right! I do like the pool filter sand better already :)

I did rinse it, but it didn't take that long for the water to run clear....bonus!

Soon I'll be starting the dreaded cycling

those colors look SWEET!!! also i had no idea that pools used sand to filter...thought it was charcol...hmmm. Anyways i hope it's cheaper than 6.65/5lbs (black sand at LFS) I really want to use black sand. And to think that i could get this at the depot. Thanks A Lot Rallysman.

I have sand in several tanks. I tried play sand but didnt like it very much. Now i'm using commercial sand that comes from the cement section of home depot. it has been VERY nice, very uniform, and it doesnt clump that much so the trapped air pockets are few and far between

I think we've got the same stuff. I got Quickcrete sand from Lowes for 2 bucks, didn't even use half of it.

If you really like the "beach look", then you'd really love Blasting Sand, it's really fine in texture and very light tan, lighter color than play sand and no clumping or air bubbles (you can get it at lumber yards, but probably home depot or lowes as well).
