I just set up my new 5 gallon planted invert tank last night. I used mostly gravel in the tank but part of it is sand as well. I used playsand but it would look way better if I used white sand. Does anyone have any idea where I could get a small amount of white sand that would be snail and eventually shrimp safe?

You could possibly check with a company that sells rock and gravel. 3M might sell a colorquartz. Not sure if they would have white, but I know they have black...

why not go into a pet store and just get white marine sand????? should be invert safe. also what about scilica sand?

the silica wont say that it is for aquarium use.

it isnt live sand. this is the stuff that has been dryed out and is in 5# bags. it is good for freshwater use. if you are only using 1 bag it shouldnt be too bad on the pocketbook but if you had to use 5# bags on a 100gal tank, that may be a problem.

hope this helps

good luck
