Could anyone please help me?

My Sarasa Comet has started to rest all the time at the botom of the fish tank. He used to swim around most of the time.

Then every now and again he springs into life quite violently and bangs into the sides of the tank and also he rubs his sides against the tank floor. It is almost like he goes into a fit. After this he returns to resting on the bottom.

He has also been resting floating with his head facing upwards which is most unusual. I know this my be a swim bladder problem, and today he has rested normally.

I have looked at him for parasites but can't see any.

It really is a worry seeing him react in this way.

I'd be grateful of any advice with this as he seems to be in much distress.

Thank you,

GD

well if he's rubbing on the gravel that's usually called flashing, which is a symptom of a few problems if I remember right. here is a site that may be able to help you diagnose the problem http://www.fishpalace.org/Disease.html

it sounds most like it is either ICH or velvet. here is a link to an article on who to treat some common diseases here at AC http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36876

the only problem I see with treating for ICH is it's a goldfish. most folks turn the heat in their tanks up to about 86 degrees and treat the tank with some salt, but with a goldie you probably don't want to turn the heat up that high.

hopefully someone else will have some good ideas for you

Good luck!

We need to know what your water parameters are before we can advise anything at all.

What are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH readings? How often do you do water changes and how much do you change out? How large is your tank?

Ich can be treated at lower temps. You just have to treat for a longer period of time.

Roan would be one of the FIRST folks I would go to with my fish need!

Back to the original poster...

We definately need your water Parameters as Roan stated before we can really offer any suggestions.
