has anyone had any experience with this fish in planted tanks?

i have a pair i'd like to move into my planted 55g but they are "earth eaters" and like to chew on the gravel in the 29g they're in now.

although aquahobbie's profile for them mentions keeping them with plants.

these are very beautiful fish i'd like to see them in the planted 55g but i dont want to end up regretting it, or end up whipping a net around the tank ripping through plants to get them out.

You might get away with keeping large strong specimens of Amazon Swordplant. If his digging is excessive then you may have to pot them. My adult Geophagus brasiliensis has no tolerance of plants and destroys them. However, I have a small G.surinamensis who is quite happy to leave Amazon swordplant alone. The G.jurapari is very similar to G.surinamensis and I'd assume he should tolerate some plants. I would advise against the more delicate plants though, as they will not withstand the digging and odd nipping for very long.
