saw betta w/head stuck in subtrate@PETCO

bettas are very curious and if they have nothing better to do, they can get themselves in trouble. one of mine got himself stuck between a few ornamental rocks.. which was really surprising, we never knew he could even fit in there. well, he couldnt fit in there, so that's why he was stuck. he had a problem getting his long anal fin through it T_T he apparently still tried relli hard to get out, that's why he got scratched so bad. good thing i spotted him on time. we were able to get him out, but it ripped off 80% of his anal fin... that was already mostly ripped when we found him :S i was scared he would not make it coz he looked terrible losing 1/3 of his scales, and he was terrified. he literally turned from dark blue-red to pale red :S
but he did make it n is healthy as ever now.

interesting thanks

i always check out the betta section at fish stores, usually you might find a delta or crowntail at a great price and coloring. good thing you saved that betta though, it would have suffocated.

well this petco had a lot od crown tails the even had a little sticker on the cup to tell you i didn't see any deltas though

they must be as active as a dwarf gourami, right?

Betta activity

I'm not familiar as to how active a Dwarf Gourami is, but I can tell you that my Betta is much more active than I ever imagined a Betta to be! He lives in a 2.5 gal traditional fish bowl, complete with live healthy Sword plant and a cave and gravel. The temperature in his bowl is 78-80f and he gets lots of natural light, including a little sunlight (20min worth) when the sun does comes out.lol I feed him once to twice daily a variety of flake foods, freeze dried, to even the odd fresh soft bodied insect. I change half his water by using a gravel syphon every third day. Anyways, back to how active he is! They say that if a Betta is happy, you will know it. Well, my little Finnigin must be happy, because he is very active! He seems to enjoy showing off his finnage and he is one of the most interactive fish I've ever owned! He seems to enjoy swimming through the plant stems and leaves and his cave. I find myself often watching him(on my coffee table), more than the tv during the evening hours. lol

I find this amusing. I came home the other day to find my betta, you guessed it, with his head stuck down in the glass beads (same ones you saw, look like flattened marbles). I have about an inch of them at the bottom of a 5 gallon aquarium, and he had managed to work more than half his body length down in among the beads. He wasn't thrashing around at all, but since he was past his pectoral fins, there was no way he was getting out. I carefully moved the beads around him to set him free. Silly fish.

And yes, in a five gallon, he is very active. My wife and I can sit there and watch him for hours.

most sellers of betta like walmarts, k-marts, petcos, petsmarts, dont take very good care of their bettas, poor lil guys. they dont do regular water changes and most dont get bought do to their appance. I try to tell them but they dont listen only way to save them is to buy them.

maybe you want to change the beads to gravel there was most likly food deep in the beads and he wanted it. so a fine gravel would be easier for him to have to move around.

also the betta i saw was not there today the glass he was in was empty of fish and water so some one got him or he 's dead

I had a friend whose betta 'played' in the river rocks she had at the bottom of her 2-gallon hex.... he got stuck quite physically in them and literally drowned!! The poor guy. She hasn't had the heart to buy another one. She cried when little Sniffey had to be flushed.
