Dont worry dont plan i buying from walmart i just thought id look. i figured i might as well check what they had and what they said about them. well anyway when i came i saw that all their clown loaches had some type of white fungus on them. and a dwarf gourami had a big white part under its mouth that was all fungus. so dont ever buy fish from walmart!

A lot of folks say their local Wal-Marts are pretty bad. ours is not too bad. I see fewer floater fish and usually get better customer service there than I do at either of the other two fish stores in town. In fact, the only purely fish store in my town I won't bother to go to ever again because the fish were unhealthy and no one, and i really mean no one, ever showed their face. It was like me and my kids were the only folks in the store. If I were less honest I could've walked out with as big a tank as I could carry and I still don't think I would have seen anyone.

I'm sure it depends on the walmart, but I walked by (getting supplies) and saw an employee doing what appeared to be a routine gather-up-all-the-dead-fish patrol. Bad times.

The only Wal-Mart fish I've seen that looked half-decent were in Kamloops BC, which is like 4+ hours away from me :) Not worth the drive, I'll stick to my very healthy LFS fish.

My local Wal-Mart isn't exactly my favorite place to buy fish from, but it could be worse. They have better otos than any other place around, and one time I lucked out and found a characidium in one of the tanks there. I do see the occasional dead fish, but that is expected even in good lfs's. In general the fish are in pretty good health.

Wal-Mart is much better than a certain lfs I visited today. That place had dead fish in every tank, and the ones that were alive were severely diseased and/or dying. No exaggeration here - 90% of the fish in that place that were still living were well on their way to dying. Cases of ich worse than any I have ever seen, emaciated puffers with chunks of flesh missing, fish with popeye, etc. It's too bad, because they do get some unique fish in from time to time, but I will never buy from that place again. Such a place shouldn't be selling fish!

The Walmart here in Kelowna is horrendous. I bought a couple fish there to start my tank out awhile ago(won't again) and the lady who got my fish washed her hands with soap before she put her hands in the tanks to net the fish.

Ems, I won't drive to Kamloops for fish, but the Total Pet here isn't too bad.

Yeah I don't think it is worth the drive, but it's the only Wal-Mart that I've seen that isn't horrendous, or at least it wasn't last summer :) Who knows what it's like now.

I can't entirely cuss WalMart. I bought a school of 10 Neon Tetras from my VERY trusted LFS and they all died within 10 days. I bought 15 White Clouds 18 days ago from WalMart and havent lost a single one.

Never been to look at Walmart's fish, but I did look at the fish at the local Meier's (kind of a grocery store/department store/super Walmart kind of place) the other day.

I suspect management has realized that if you just leave the floaters in the tanks, you don't have to put any fish food in there. Saves money and cleanup!

Nasty place...
