Has anyone successfully kept a scarlet badis (Dario dario)? I am setting up a small planted tank and was considering one of these little gems. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

well at this point, best foods to feed, actual adult size, and any other tips or tricks you have come across, I am new on this forum but not to fish keeping. Also is there a supplier you suggest? The only online supplier I can find is liveaquaria, and special ordering from my so called "LFS" is touchy at best. Thanks a lot.

msjinkzd on here usually have them for sale. She is were I got all mine. Check the vendor forum, that is where she lists what she has up for sale.

I feed mine micro worms, white worms, and golden pearls. Once in a while they'll eat flake, not often. They preferred live food. They will eat shrimp babies too. So brine shrimp is good too.

Most adults will be just under an inch.

I keep a group of males about 8 in a 20long, med to heavy planted. I don't have any problems with them fighting each other at all. Some other members do. My largest male is in a 5g planted with some shrimp, he is the ruler of the tank.

Females will be plain/pale grayish color rounder than males. Very hard to get a female.

I should have more next week :)

They are not agressive, but need space to set up small territories. They tend to hang out in the bottom 1/3 of the tank the most.

Live foods are important, and small ones though they will take frozen baby brine as well as the golden pearls.

I ordered some from msjinkzd a while back and they are doing good. Had them for several months, and hoping to get some more the next time she has some available.

I really just feed them frozen brine shrimp and flakes. I never see them eat the flakes though. I think I will look into the golden pearls, never heard of them, but I think Ill give em a try.

I've had two in a 5 gallon for quite some time. One occassionally chases the other, but it's heavily planted and there's no real bullying. I feed them brine shrimp and drain off bits from other frozen foods that I feed my other fish. They do great with my cherry shrimp.

Information on the Dario Dario can be sparse. One of my bloggers got close to spawning them, but could never get them to finalize the deal. Although he's compiled all the information he had on em courting each other etc.
