Hey Guys-
just a question on what fish I can add to make my 11 H. Rasboras school, the only time they school is when I do tank cleaning/water change. Also I have a couple of nice med size angels so fin nippers are no-no's. I only have a 30G tank but will upgrade in a couple of months

Thanks,

Current fish:

2 med size angels
11 Harlequin Rasboras
1 neon tetra (use to be 10, bad angel, bad angel)
1 Rainbow fish (other 1 in fish heaven)
3 baby clown loaches (under 2")
2 adult yo-yo loach (both fat and lazy, H. Rasb just ignores them)
2 dwarf gourami (suppose to be territorial but mine are very peaceful

You could always try cardinal tetras, too big for your angel, but will make your remaining neon a little more comfy because he doesn't know the difference between cardinals and neons :). However, your tank seems as though it would be cramped right now, so I'd wait until you can upgrade before adding anymore fish.

Tank is kinda small for real schooling action, but the problem here is that the fish are very comfortable in your tank, ( a good sign). I wouldnt really add any unneeded stress to their lives and this would only last a while when they get comfortable with this new fish.

In the bigger tank, you will notice the schooling behavior more, but the thing to keep in mind--fish school tightly because they are nervous and stressed--it's a reaction to the threat of predation. If they don't see the angels as a threat, it's unlikely that they will see anything as a threat for long. In a bigger tank, you will notice them concentrating in one area. How much bigger? Who knows--the fish have decided that being spread out over the 30 is safe, so may decide the same thing in a 55, but would school in a 125. With CB fish, it's hard to say. WC schooling fish tend to stick together tightly--that survival instinct is still very strong.

yes, tank is full already... but is there any fish (1) I can add just to make my rasboras school? I'm thinking a small red tail shark, would that do the job? Also I do tank cleaning/water/filter change at least 2x a week and water quality/parameters are A-OK...

Thx

No. Adding a red tail will cause serious problems down the line. It's not a matter of maintaining a balance with the nitrogen cycle, you also have to consider the territory needs of the fish. An aggressive fish will make the tetras school, but it's also going to terrorize everyone else in the tank. Adding stress is bad.

5 clown loaches? I hope you are going to invest in a nice big tank for them in less than 2 years! My boyfriend now has 3 in a 20 gallon: one is five inches and four years old, the others are 3 and 1.5 inches. They grow pretty slowly but I'll tell you there won't be room in that tank for long! In his 20 gallon he used to have 2 angels, a clown loach, 2 lemon tetras, one zebra danio, two cories & a pleco and that was full!!!! But now he has: 3 c. loaches, pleco, 2 cories, 2 tetras, and the danio and it looks pretty empty until feeding time. I hope you have adequate hiding space for the loaches too since they enjoy hiding under leaves and driftwood!
