Schooling fish from Southeast Asia

Lambchop rasbora, Trigonostigma espei, and the good old standby white cloud mountain minnow. Or any of the other Tanichthys species, for that matter, as well. T. micagemma and T. thacbaensis show up once in a while if you don't want to do the more familiar white clouds. All these are large enough to not become betta bait but small enough you could do a reasonable school in a 10 gallon with a betta. They also won't nip at the betta's fins like many danios would.

Ooooooo, Lamchop reminded me of Harlequin rasbora, turns out they are from SE Asia as well and they are a bit more common

They're also a little smaller, and I personally think the color is more intense. It is less pinkish and a bit more orange than in harlequins. They've regularly spawned spontaneously in my tanks, which is something harlequins have never done. I love these guys.

If you wanna make a stand in for like those peat swamp rasboras which have a more long shape and stuff like sarawakensis pencilfish could work
