Schooling fish that coexist with goldfish?

They are too small and tropical. There really aren't any schooling fish that would go with them. There's a reason the hobby is divided into sections...Tropical and coldwater...otherwise it'd just be "Freshwater.":D

I've also read that goldfish/koi can carry some diseases that do not affect themselves but can infect tropical fish species that are kept with them.

Even the smallest goldfish can catch something like an oto. Someone was mentioning that they've seen pics of a very small moore that had an oto stuck in it's mouth, resulting in the oto needing to be cut out..

It's just generally not a good idea.

A good thing to keep in mind when stocking your tank/pond is : If it can fit in it's mouth... it will most likely eat it.

Hmm. I am finding some references to zebra danio's maybe working.. but I'm worried that they maybe too small..

Zebra Danios are freshwater fish that need warmer water than Goldfish, they are way way to small and also have different feeding requirements than Goldies.

I'm slowly giving up on the stupid idea. I'm just not seeing much of anything that will complement goldfish well..

went by the pet graveyard (major chain store) and I think I can come up with ag ood enough color combo I won't feel like I'm missing anything.

On a side note. They had some interesting goldfish.. white body, red circle on the top of the head. If it was koi, I know they'd be worth a buttload. Can't say that I've got a clue on goldfish tho..

Anyway, whats a typical growth rate for goldfish? 3" or so first year, 2" on good years slowing as approaching full size?

Some fish you might be able to keep with goldfish are:

1) Highfin shark (sucker)

2) tench

But I am not sure on any others.

The other fish will either be eaten by the goldfish or eat the goldfish.

I made a mistake of keeping some goldfish with a big sunfish.

The sunfish either ate or bullied the goldfish to death.
