I did at the start I do not any more. It would take several plantings to get things to stay down when I first put the SAS in.

Do I need to wash it before I put it in the tank? What about enriching the soil with ferts....

Can't speak from experience, but it just seems to me that if you mix it well, dry, in a bucket or something, then pour it into your dry tank premixed, and make sure not to disturb it much when you refill the tank with water, you shouldn't have any trouble with it.

Yes rinse it very well it will be dirty. I use root tabs under my root feeders, I have never done the laterite soil enrichment route.
