Hello everyone. I breed guppies and a few months ago a female guppy of mine began to develop a curve in her back after giving birth. She died a few feeks later. A different female guppy of mine just recently gave birth and I noticed today that she has developed this case of guppy scoliosis as well. I am afraid she is going to die. Does anyone have any information on why this is happening or how to prevent it? She is still swimming fine and looks happy, but i'm worried for her health and the health of my other guppies.

Being born with a bent spine is a genetic defect, unfortunately nothing to do except cull. However bent spines that develop over time can be due to nutritional imbalances or the wrong environmental conditions. If your guppies are otherwise healthy, active, and are fed a varied diet with clean water and plenty of space, then just take the occasional bent spine on a guppy as a deformity and remove it from the gene pool.

Are you buying all your guppies from the same place? It's important to mix up the bloodlines within a strain, but I'm sure you know that already.
