Okay the people at Petco have lost there minds, they tried to tell me that a scooter and lawnmower blenny are the same fish. I know they are in the same family, but 2 totally different fish. I need to know which is the best for me so here are my questions.
1.what is the difference between them?
and
2.Can I have them in my tank which is a 55g?

Actually, they aren't really in the same family. Well, I mean, kind of, but the scooter is actually a dragonette, like a mandarin, that eats pods. A lawnmower is an algae eater.

The lawnmower you can pretty much have in any tank that has some algae. The scooter you really need a tank that's been established for a while.

Honestly, if your tank is old enough, and you have a fuge or other way for pods to establish themselves, you could get both...I don't think they'd bother each other as their food sources are so different.

Two very different fish indeed...The scooter (dragonette) is part of the synchiropus family, where as the algae blenny is part of the salarias...two different fish, as Damon said above, two different feeding systems....No issues with keeping them together in the same tank, just that the dragonette needs a well established pod culture to thrive...

hhmmm well they said nothing about pods in the store, we are talking about copepods right? I have put in an order to Fosters and Smith for some live copepods. oooooohhhh that makes me really dislike this Petco even more.....stinking, silly people....

Unfortunately half of the sales people are just out for a quick sale and nothing else.

How many other fish do you have and how old is your tank?

What sort of character are you looking for in your new fish. I have both of the fish you're looking at and they have completely different personalities and uses!!!

Well to be honest my tank is only about 5 weeks old, but it has already cycled, and I know that it doesn't have to copepod colony the Scooter needs, hence the order. I really need the Lawnmower blenny the substate in the tank is almost covered with algea and my hermits can't keep up.
I only have 11 Astrea snails
3 Blue leg hermits
1 Peppermint Shrimp
1 Domino Damsel
and 1 scooter Blenny
I need a few more cleaner crew creatures and then I will be leaving it alonw for about 2 months, because that is all my budget allows for right now. Does your Scooter burrow in the sand? Mine did last night it was so cool, after I found him.

My scooter burrows too. I found him whilst hoovering the substrate.

I bought my scooter a couple of weeks ago. It was named a a Scooer Blenny. Is this correct if they are from the dragonet family?
I have a pic of him on my site, click link below and follow links to marine tank 06/02/2008.

I love mine, they said he was easy to care for and we would be okay getting him, after doing research, I wanted to scream, I only hope he survives, as I doubt I have enough for him. That said I am getting a Lawnmower in the next couple of weeks.
