Hi All,
I just purchased a Scopas Tang. Not a lot of color but its shape is beautiful. Has anyone had any experience with this fish? I read that they do not grow as big as other tangs. I also have been putting lettuce in but he does not touch it. He does however eat the frozen Mysis shrimp and the frozen BUtterfly and Angel food as well as some of the flake food I feed. I want to keep him healthy and happy! What do any of you think about this fish?

I forgot to mention, I also picked him because he looked extreemly healthy! and my tank is going GREAT at 6 months! Maybe Ill start another thread telling everything that I have and how it is going if anyone is interested

i would try seaweed salad or seaweed selects instead of lettuce, its better for them. most tangs(if not all) need something to graze on just about all of the time. i try to feed all my fish several different high quality foods, in small portions 2 times a day. i also throw in some live shrimp from time to time, not alot of nutrition, but they seem to like it. they are all nice and fat, have good color, and seem to be doing well.

i like the scopas tangs--I think they are attractive, and tend to be more social than some others. But, they can be aggressive, similar to yellows, so you'll want to avoid adding other similar shape/color fish.

Also, try nori--lettuce is not a great option, and not very nutritional. Dried seaweed-available in the Asian section at most bigger grocery stores--will be better. you'll want to leave it in the tank for a day or so, or soak it in SW before putting it in.

Thanks! My Scopas is very active and healthy! that is what made me get it! He and my Potters Angel had a couple of little fights (Started by the Potters) but they have settled down now and everything is doing ok. I also have a Copper Banded Butterfly that is doing great which had me a little scared at first because of all I had read about them not eating. He chows down twice a day with everything else now! I do give some flakes around mid day but the CBB will not touch them. How soon do I need to get the Nori? He is eating well on the other things but I want to make sure he stays healthy and disease resistant!

The sooner, the better. If you can leave one entire side of the tank uncleaned to allow the growth of algae, that will be even better.

I have a corner bow and actually both of the back sides (everything accept the BOW) has algae growing on it. Mostly brown and some green. I also see him picking at the live rock. You mentioned Nori, Is this frozen from the pet store or something else?
