make sure that it's a rock salt at the grocery store if you going to buy it to treat ich or hatch brine shrimp. but agree with not keeping salt in your tank with fresh water fish on regular bases. and no, you don't want to use table salt with your marine setup
I always use aquarim salt. It is cheap and a box lasts me a long time. I dont know if it is the same but at times I have used the salt for my SW tank in my FW tanks if I ran out of FW aquarium salt.
the only times you should have salt for the guppys and platies is a. If they were raised in it
b.it you are treating for something
c.their last home has salt
otherwise dont worry about it
for treating oyu should get the special aquarium salt form the pet store
rock salt is the same as aquarium salt. mollies and platties will thank you for a little salt. i use rock salt and my livebearers perk up and look healthier.
