urchins need a lot of food to power their heavy bodys. i would take it back, and stop going to that lfs, or at least think twice about what they say

Yes they do need that much. Algae is their main diet as we've said.
Yes they do go on the glass but that's not going to help you keep him alive.
yeah man u should listen to the people here. Its not about how cheap or expensive the urchin is. U need to remember that it is a living thing. Algae has a very low nutritional value so an animal who grazes on it must be constantly feeding. just take it bak man. Even though this is a hobby, you still gotta remember that you are dealing with a living animal. Also, work on ur grammar.

It won't be enough to maintain him.
At the end of the day, the best advice is to take it back. You won't be able to sustain it and it will die if you keep it. You asked for advice on whether or not they are hard to keep - unfortunately it isn't possible to keep one long term in your set up, therefore it's going to be very hard.

i find it hard to believe your LFS didnt take the urchin back....better taking the advice of the guys on here mate...im not 100% sure on this but i have heard when some urchins die they can release toxins into your water....but like i say im not entirely sure on this....better just taking it back before it dies in your system.
