Is there a hug difference if I use my bucket idea and just dose the amount I am replacing?

if dosing 10 gal use 1 ml/cc
if dosing the tank you would use the amount of the tank volume so 5ml/cc's

cheaper in the long run to dose and refill the bucket ..but when you have a bunch of tanks like some of us:help:
we usually use a python and dose the tank..much easier and faster.

Im using a DIY python so does that mean I need to dose the full volume every time? I was under the impression I could put just the dosage for the water change water into a bucket with some water and just add the mix gradually as the hose refills the tank...
