Up until now, I've been using API's stress coat to condtion my tankwater. Then I found out that Prime can detoxify nitrite and nitrates, in addition to ammonia. Is it the only conditioner that does nitrites and nitrates too? And I get confused by some conditioners that remove a compound rather than detoxify. Detoxifying agents are better for the bacteria right?

nope. when you do a fishless cycle you add straight ammonia. the prime should not be used to detoxify the wastes your fish produce. it can be used that way, say if you have a spike, but its better to properly cycle your tank and test your water regularly and not overfeed or overstock. the prime works as a great dechlorinator, which should be its primary purpose. it removes both chlorine and chloramines. you also only need very small amounts which makes it more cost effective in the long run
Amquel + does too, we've had plenty of arguments over which is better. Check the dechlorinator tag.
There have been quite a few "discussions" about dechlors. I use Prime exclusively right now, but if it weren't available I'd go with Amquel +. Anything with "stress" "slime" or "coat" in the name... :headshake2:

I go with Prime only because it's so potent. I know my tank is cycled so that takes care of any Ammonia or nitrite problems and since I have a planted tank, the nitrates are reduced.
Does anyone have any experience with TetraAqua AquaSafe? I thought I remember reading a recommendation of it somewhere on here, which is why I bought it, but for all I know it doesn't do anything. Fish aren't dead, so I guess it's at least not poisoning them
